Alive

What is the meaning of the word alive?
Does something alive have to have skin...
Or
what about a pulse?
Is a plastic toy alive? It is to a young boy.
So who really knows the definition of the word "alive?"
Does alive mean to be able to move?
If it does, cars move. Does this mean cars are alive?
Some believe fantasies are alive, like young children who have imaginary friends.
So....who defines "alive" and do we have to agree with their definition?

  1. Fascinating blog.
You ask some excellent questions about the word "alive".
    As you point out...
alive can mean different things to different people at different ages and stages.
I love thinking about how toys and cars can be "alive" for children.
Children have a sense of imagination and wonder that is quite beautiful..
    (and makes me smile).
May we always retain our sense of imagination and wonder!
